The “American experiment” is often referenced in academic discussions or political theorizing but rarely understood and explained. Mar Qardakh International School had the distinct pleasure to welcome Mr. Adam Sigelman, Deputy Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy Baghdad and Ms. Kim Strollo, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General Erbil, to discuss this very topic. Mr. Sigelman explained the many intricacies of the structure of the U.S. government beginning with a conversation about federalism. He later addressed how checks and balances maintain a balance of power between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches and the unique areas of concern and advantages of the U.S. government framework. Students offered a series of questions ranging from the finer points of electing vice presidents to the nature of American tax law. Next step is running for Congress with these brilliant minds.
